The islands of the Uros call themselves kotsuña, “the man of the lake”, and their origins go back to times before the Incas. It is located north of the Bay of Puno, 6 kilometers from Puerto Lacustre, at an altitude of 3,812 meters above sea level (the highest lake in the world). The islands of the Uros (3 810 m a.m.) are located in the bay of Puno. The cold and dry climate characteristic of the region is attenuated in the zone thanks to the action of the masses of water that evaporate constantly. The average temperature at night is 10º C thanks to the regulating action of the lake water that receives the sun’s rays during the day, and at nightfall the accumulated heat distributes them.
Our departure starts from your hotel at 8:45am, or you can take the afternoon excursion starting at 4:00am. Our private transportation will take you to port or main pier, and then start the departure in a boat or boat, heading to the floating islands of the Uros, navigation time 30 minutes. This excursion allows us to visit one of the most important attractions of the city of Puno, “Las islas flotantes de los Uros” (The floating islands of the Uros), a millennial town that lives in the middle of the totora, a community of AYMARA language that maintains the tradition of artisan fishing, hunting wild birds and collecting duck eggs, the men are skillful builders and drivers of totora rafts and the women are expert weavers. Our specialized guide will give you a general explanation about the daily experience of the Uros people. Finally we will take the road back to the city of Puno, arriving at 12:00pm approximately.
